Expertise that go beyond just Agro Products

As new materials have been practice globally as well as in India, Agrotextiles has become part of Protected Cultivation.

Agrotextiles, a part of Agro Products, are known as technical textile products used in agriculture, horticulture (including floriculture), fisheries, and forestry. The essential properties required in Agrotextiles are strength, elongation, resistance to sunlight, breathability, and resistance to toxic environment and bio-degradation. All these properties help in crop growth and reduction in wastage of crops and other foodstuffs.

As new materials have been practiced globally as well as in India, Agrotextiles have become a part of Protected Cultivation.

Nirmal Fibres has developed PP spun bond-based Agrotextiles and made-ups thereof by choice of polymer/additives and modifying process variables in its plant.

Nirmal Fibres has acquired a prominent position in the Indian horticulture sector as a farmer partner through the supply of Agrotextiles for Protective Farming. Deep understanding of horticulture practices has built a competitive and efficient supply chain that delivers products of immense value.

These are for protection and enhanced growth of ornamentals, fruits and vegetable plants, pest and weed control, hail protection, shade and bird netting. The novelty of application is that such Agroproducts allow sunlight, water, air to pass through owing to its porous structure, yet offer protection against birds, insects, heavy rain, hail, frost.

The Agroproducts help in conservation of soil heat for winter crops protecting against early cold weather. This helps in fast germination of seed as well as protection from plant disease. The same fabric cover continues to be used facilitating photosynthesis by preserving carbon dioxide, allowing sunlight and moisture.

It can be deployed from plantation to fruition stages. Its good strength helps in reuse of fabrics. Owing to its good strength, it also protects against birdbite, insects, heavy rain, hail, frost. Nirmal Agrotextiles are equal in task as its fabrics as fine as 12 gsm to 80 gsm have been accepted for such applications. Novelty of application has helped in the following.

# Import substitution (of similar/type fabrics for Protective farming)
# Reducing farming wastage
# Helping in organic farming for pest and weed control, eliminating synthetic chemicals.

FRUIT PROTECTION COVERS / BANANA BUNCH COVER

Banana Bunch Covers made from PP UV Stabilised fabric, 17 gsm is well accepted for its protection. These are used primarily to improve banana's quality, appearance and protect from birds and pests.

BENEFITS of Banana bunch cover:

-- Allow faster & more trustworthy harvest
-- Allow adequate ripening of the banana
-- Improve quality & appearance of the fruit
-- Protect from external natural conditions (wind, rain, sun damage, etc.)
-- Prevent mechanical injuries (marks & scratches)
-- Prevent birds, insects & fruit flies from damaging the fruit & causing spots

The covers are made in tubular form. Cover lengths are available in 1, 1.2, and 1.5 meters with top & bottom tie cords.

ROW COVERS:

Objective of Row Covers is to protect soil heat, enhance carbon dioxide level and thus enhance plant growth. Weight of commonly used PP Spunbond covers are 17gsm to 40gsm. Field Agro fabrics are UV Stabilised.

ROW COVERS are floating or hoop-supported type. Floating covers lie over the crop. Most vegetables like capsicum, cauliflower, cabbage, cucumber, chilli, tomato, as well as strawberries, raspberries, and cut flowers have been grown with hoop-supported tunnel covers.

In the autumn, there is a larger reservoir of soil heat than in spring. The covers perform very well in protecting winter & late season crops.

FROST COVERS:

India is primarily an agricultural country wherein wide varieties of crops are cultivated across various diversified climatic regions. In north India during winter, many areas suffer severe frost resulting in widespread crop damages. In order to protect crops against frost, Nirmal Agritextiles are offered in 25 to 40 gsm UV Stable fabrics. These are mounted with hoop supports.

Besides protection against frost, it provides additional benefits:

  • Growth of late season crops.
  • Protection from insect attacks.
  • Reduction of pesticide / insecticide use.

LOW TUNNEL COVERS:

Objective of Low Tunnels is to improve saplings' growth in small beds by protecting soil heat and enhancing carbon dioxide levels.

The low tunnels are set up inside plastic houses as well as in open areas for nursery plantations, where the covers also serve as a barrier to wind, insects, and varmints.

LOW TUNNEL Covers inside HIGH TUNNELS are of low mass like 17 gsm & 25 gsm. These are not UV stable, as high tunnel fabric is already UV stable.

LOW TUNNEL covers in open fields use 40 gsm fabric and are UV stable.

WEED CONTROL & MULCH FABRIC:

The objective of mulch is to control weeds as well as to improve plant growth by entrapping soil heat and minimizing water consumption. PP spunbond laminated fabrics of 25 gsm act as non-breathable moisture and air barrier fabrics.

These are available in different colours, generally in BLACK/WHITE and BLACK/GREY combinations.

Most vegetables like capsicum, cauliflower, cabbage, cucumber, potato, as well as strawberries, raspberries, and cut flowers are grown using these fabrics in combination with micro irrigation techniques.
